Speech Day (1967)

First Speech Day, July 1996

Isaac Stamper, head of English and a key figure in the School's history, reports on the first school Speech Day which combined the presentation of prizes for the first two years of the School's physical existence.   I squeaked in the lists with a 'library prize',  which I won for writing up a 'botannical field trip' each member of our class was supposed to have undertaken.   I was a rather dissident kind of chap in those days and for some reason I took against the idea of going into the field and collecting specimens,  and therefore refused to go.   So my mother and sister went out instead to collect the stuff,  and I put together a presentation based on their efforts.   I'm still at it,  albeit electronically,  as you can see.
