And the time  ...

by my * ****** ******* watch,  is - 1952,  thru 1962,  thru 1972.  Just two tremendous decades of our school from its birth to the end of its Grammar School phase.   It served the sons and daughters of colliers,  tradesmen, salesmen,  office workers,  factory workers and a small proportion of professional people.  It drew its pupils from all over Nottinghamshire and gave them a rich academic education,  its staff among the finest minds and finest teachers your Webmaster has known,  then or since.

And we all tuned our radios to 208.

The graduates became,  among other things,  musicians,  actors,  writers,  artists, scientists,  engineers,  computer technologists,  diplomats,  architects,  warriors,  accountants and even (tell it not in Gath) bankers and management consultants.  As well as all the other categories above.

And they lived through the decade of Bankrupt Britain,  the decade of growing,  spreading wealth and Britpop,  and just touched the hem of the decade of Flares (I still have a pair).  On our site you can explore the School's history,  meet some of its people and share some of the experiences we saw over those decades.  You probably would have to rock around the clock to see it all.

Carlton Le Willows, in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, was the first Grammar School built in the county since WW2. It enrolled its first pupils in 1953, but its status changed in the early seventies when it became a Comprehensive. Our Society is for ex-pupils and staff of the school in its Grammar School period. This site, funded by the Society, is for anyone who's interested and is intended to preserve memories of the School, foster links between those who studied and worked there, to encourage new membership and to provide a service for existing members.
